Nathan S. Johnston, D.O.

Dr. Johnston founded the Phoenix Mental Health clinic to bring new, innovative, evidence-based treatments for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) to the people of San Antonio, TX… and beyond.
Dr. Johnston has been nominated by the American Psychiatric Association for the 2025 Innovative Psychiatrist of the Year award in recognition of his contributions to the field as an educator, speaker, and interventionalist psychiatrist offering multiple cutting-edge modalities at multiple clinic locations in San Antonio and Seattle.
The Phoenix Mental Health is the first clinical site in San Antonio to offer Deep Brain Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for the treatment of MDD and the first psychiatry clinic in the nation to offer Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) as an outpatient procedure. Phoenix Mental Health also offers medication management, ketamine and Spravato treatments.
Dr. Johnston serves as the medical director for Mindful Elevation Natural Medicine Healing Center. In this role, he conducts medical clearance evaluations for individuals interested in pursuing Psilocybin Assisted Therapy. His services include interdisciplinary consultation with our licensed facilitators prior to, during and after your medicine journey. He offers virtual and clinic appointments.

Heather A. Lee is a nationally recognized expert at the forefront of psychedelic-assisted therapy, integrative mental health, and transformational healing. With over 25 years of clinical experience and advanced training in Mind/Body Medicine from Harvard, she is one of the nation’s first Certified and Licensed Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapists (NMCF.0000022). As faculty of the Conscious Physicians Psychedelics Academy, Heather provides education to medical professionals and training to support licensing of facilitators in the implementation of the upcoming regulated practice of Natural Medicine in New Mexico.

Anna combines her clinical nursing expertise with over 30 years of lived and professional experience with psychedelic medicines, bringing safety, trauma-informed care, and compassionate presence to every session. Working in acute and complex settings, such as emergency departments and correctional facilities, has helped Anna refine the ability to remain calm and steadfast in challenging situations. Her experience providing Veterans care and working with chronic pain management, women’s health issues, and supporting individuals adjusting to cognitive decline and mental health challenges has prepared her to support clients through vulnerable states and transformative medicine journeys.
Anna has a diverse background and lived experience. She is the daughter of an immigrant and of mixed heritage. She lived on three continents and studied psychedelic facilitation with Indigenous healers in Mexico. She weaves the healing philosophies of these cultures with a reverent and ethically responsible approach to plant medicine. She prioritizes safety, trust, and connection, creating spaces where healing and transformation can naturally unfold.

Tess is a natural medicine clinical facilitator in training (NMIT.0000255) who works from a trauma-informed, client-centered framework. Her clinical experience and trauma-focused training in EMDR informs how she approaches natural medicine facilitation through each phase of her client’s journey.
She prioritizes client safety, consent, and an individualized assessment of each client’s readiness for a journey. Tess believes in using a structured, intentional and paced process of preparation that promotes nervous system regulation according to each individual’s capacity.
